1. Choose the experience, not just the avatar
Start with a multi-character scenario if you want a shared setting, an ensemble cast and a plot to step into. Choose a standalone character for a focused one-on-one conversation. They are different starting points: a character session is not automatically a story room. Read the premise and character introduction before opening either, and choose a tone you actually want to explore.
2. Give yourself a role and a small goal
In a scenario, create or join a room and choose an available player role according to its participation settings. For a character conversation, use the available persona settings to explain who you are. Keep the initial setup short: your identity, your relationship to the other character and one immediate problem are enough. You do not need to write an entire biography before sending a message.
3. Write an opening the character can act on
Combine a visible action with a clear question or decision. This gives the AI more context than a bare greeting, without dictating its reply. Describe what your own role does; leave other characters free to react. In a mystery, ask about one clue rather than demanding the entire solution. In a relationship scene, introduce a shared event rather than assuming feelings have already changed.
Writing example: “I place the sealed letter on the desk and keep my hand on it. You were the last person in the archive—do you recognize this seal?”
4. Continue, correct and check before spending
Build on one detail from the reply and make your next choice. If the AI misunderstands a name or event, restate the relevant fact briefly; do not assume perfect recall.
